Gather Packing Supplies

Boxes
Collect various sizes of sturdy cardboard boxes. Consider specialty boxes for fragile items or wardrobe boxes for clothing.

Packing Materials
Stock up on bubble wrap and packing paper to protect delicate items during transit.

Tools
Have packing tape, scissors, markers, and labels on hand for efficient packing and organization.

Before packing, go through your belongings and decide what to keep, donate, or discard. This reduces the volume of items to pack and move and as consequence the cost of your removal.
Sort items by category or room to streamline the packing process. This organization will also help with unpacking later.

Start with Non-Essential Items
Begin packing items you won’t need in the weeks leading up to the move. This includes seasonal clothing, books, and decorative items.
Pack room by room, starting with less frequently used spaces like guest rooms or storage areas.

Protect Fragile Items
Use bubble wrap or packing paper to individually wrap fragile items like glassware and ceramics. Pack glassware and fragile items in a small box to avoid being broken.
Place packing paper at the bottom of boxes before adding wrapped fragile items.
Fill empty spaces in boxes with packing peanuts or crumpled paper to prevent shifting during transport.
Clearly mark boxes containing fragile items as "FRAGILE" and indicate which side should be kept upright.
Avoid to load books and heavy items in large boxes as they will be to heavy to be transported.

Pack Clothing and Linens
Use wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes to keep them wrinkle-free. Fold other clothing and pack in regular boxes.
Vacuum-seal bags can compress bulky items like comforters and winter coats, saving space in boxes.

Label and Inventory
Clearly label each box with its contents and the room it belongs to. Use color-coding for easy identification.
Create a detailed inventory list of packed items. This helps track belongings and assists with unpacking.
Use fragile tape only on the fragile contents to facilitate the work of the mover so they can keep what is fragile on top during the transport.
Pack an Essentials Box
Personal Items
Include toiletries, medications, and a change of clothes for each family member.
Important Documents
Keep passports, birth certificates, and other crucial papers in a secure, easily accessible location.
